How are your silkworms doing? This past weekend many of the silkworms have formed their cocoons and our now in Stage 3 (Pupa) of their life cycle. I hope those of you who took their silkworms home got to see this beautiful transformation. There are still about 8-10 silkworms that have not moved into Stage 3. Can't wait to hear your stories about your weekend!!
Thank you to all who attended the Cerritos Center Awards Recognition Ceremony on March 19th. It was an exciting event. The students and I went up on stage and accepted our class award for our mural we created for the Sarakasi African Acrobats. We also incorporated our drum lessons with Mr. Max into our submission, as well as, letters of thanks to the Friends of Arts Education. Congratulations, Students!! We just finished our first week of testing. Students took their time and gave their best effort. Don't forget to review Study Island concepts in math. The test questions will be read orally them. Students MUST stay focused, as each question is only read twice. Have your child practice homework problems using scratch paper to show their work. They cannot write in their test booklets for math.
Our class is receiving an award for our Creative Expressions mural of the Sarakasi African Acrobats and the letters you wrote to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts! Great Job! The ceremony is on Sunday, May 19th at the Cerritos Center. Please R.S.V.P. by Friday, May 10th. See information being sent home on May 8th. I hope you all can make it! New charts are posted for our Procedural Text Unit. This is our "How-To" unit. Students have been reading texts that explain "how-to" make or do something. This is very "real world" learning. They have to follow steps in order to understand the text. In writing, the students are also writing their own "How-To" as well. Can't wait to read them. They are all excited about sharing them! We'll let you know when we are having our Writing Celebration so you can attend if you like!
